Going over the sales figures form the petcattoys.com store, we observed that, once again, the thermal self heating cat pads were top sellers. Now personally, I'm happy to see this is so. Generally, self-heating thermal cat cushions tend to be a soft machine washable mat with dimensions of about 1.5' x 2'. The exterior is most often a synthetic faux leopard skin material. Inside is a sheet of heat reflective material that makes the thermal cat cushions "self heating". This material, I believe, is similar to one of those silvery emergency blankets that many of us always take on a camping trip. The thermal cat pad makes a 'crinkling' sound when crumpled, just like one of those silver blankets.

Self-heating may be a bit of a misnomer, What these cushions actually do is reflect a cats body heat back towards the cat and into the mat itself. The mat being a heat- retentive material that prevents fast dissipation of the warmth. Between the leopard skin and the reflected body heat, a self heating thermal cat cushion has the effect of simulating the contact of another cat.

Dexter lays on his pad, and seems to imagine that he is once again snuggled with his brothers and sisters. In fact, he is many times more pettable and "lovey-dovey" when he is on his thermal mat.
